how to decorate a room

Add some spring to your home – part 1

Spring is here.  It’s not just that the calendar says so – I can also feel it.  The sun is shining through the clouds, the flowers are starting to bloom – and my son’s hey fever has gone crazy! It makes me want to move out all those earthy colour throws and cushions, and bring in some pastels.  But I won’t keep them too far, because it could be raining again tomorrow!

Need help styling/decorating a room?

Do you need help styling a room in your home? Many people find they just don’t know where to start and need a little help.  Here’s an example of where I would start.

ikea rug

I am so in love with this new rug from Ikea.  I spotted it in a magazine and assumed it was from an expensive store.  When I saw it was from Ikea I nearly jumped for joy.  Seriously, it’s that good.  The colours are fantastic and work so well together.  I can think of a thousand ways of styling this rug.

Here’s just one of many ways to be inspired by a piece. (There are also plenty more products that could be added to this room)

texture tutorial

You know when you see something in a home or store and you just want to touch it? Probably because it screams texture.  A really effective way to create interest in a room is by using different textures.  Try a shaggy rug with a smooth, copper light.  A raw wooden table with beautiful leather chairs.  Instantly these different texture will make a room seem warm and inviting.  See if you can pick out the different textures used in these rooms. Don’t forget to scroll down to see my mood board of textured products too.
